Welcome to the Go From Broke podcast where you'll learn how to take control of your money so you can stress less and save more. If you're tired of living paycheck to paycheck or constantly wondering where your money is going, you're in the right place. This podcast is all about giving you actionable tips and advice so you can get started improving your finances today.

If you've been struggling to manage your money and are sick and tired of feeling stressed out every time another bill comes in the mail I've got just the solution for you.

I call it the ACE Your Money method, three foundational steps that will help you take control of your money once and for all.

The first step is awareness, knowing how much money you have and where you're spending it.

When I first started getting serious about improving our finances, it felt like I was fighting a losing battle.

It didn't feel like we were spending beyond our means. I mean, we were making good money and paying all our bills on time. We just couldn't seem to get ahead.

And whenever we got hit with a large unexpected expense, or even an expected one, like the car registration, it was just super stressful to find the money.

Where was it all going?

That's when I discovered that to actually be in control of our money I had to know where I was spending it.

So I started tracking our spending.

All of it.

It wasn't fun and it took some adjusting, but it was seriously eye opening.

It gave us the awareness we needed to start making a change.

But knowing where we were spending our money, was only part of the solution. We also had to shift our mindsets from a more traditional form of budgeting, where we forecasted our income every month, to only budgeting the money we actually had in the account at that moment.

This was how I learned that while we may have been okay paying our bills on time, that was only because we had a steady paycheck coming in.

If anything happened to stop or delay that next paycheck we'd be in serious trouble.

It turns out we'd been living on the credit card float, essentially spending next month's income instead of living off last month's.

This was the gut punch that I needed to buckle down and actually figure things out. That fear and stress of not being in control drove me to get intentional with our money and double down on finding a budget that worked for us.

The trick actually turned out to be getting clear on our priorities, which leads us into the second step of the ACE Your Money method, clarity.

Having clarity around what we wanted our money to do, made it loads easier to keep our spending in check. I mean, we're not perfect, even years later. But in getting more aware and more clear, I was also able to recognize where my weak areas were and to prepare for them.

And that's the third step, execution.

I learned how to create a budget that actually works for us.

We have fun money to cover our random personal desires, sinking funds set up to cover other areas that we tend to splurge on, and that way everything's in the budget. So we don't feel guilty or restricted, but we're also able to constrain ourselves by keeping our overall goals in mind.

And with those three simple concepts, awareness, clarity, and execution, I was able to completely transform our finances. And you can too.

Your action task this week is to apply the Ace Your Money method to your finances.

Take a look at your spending and gain some awareness. Where is your money going? What are you spending it on?

Then figure out what you want your money to do for you.

And then see if that's spending aligns with those goals and priorities.

If your spending's not in alignment with your values, make a new plan and execute it. Make a budget that works for you.

And if you need help with that, Go From Broke has coaching services now where we can actually work through these steps with you to help you make a budget that works for you.
